A walk at Turnbull

Posted on August 20, 2020February 11, 2023
B&W photo of a pond at Turnbull Wildlife Refuge

Periodically I get together my friend Martin and go for a walk somewhere in nature. I appreciate our walks because they can be full of conversation or they can remain in a comfortable silence. I seem to recall a quote from somewhere that basically describes a friend as someone you can be yourself with.

One of the things I like about walking is that it feels like the natural pace of life as compared to driving or flying across long distances. I don’t get jet lag from a walk like I do with other modes of transportation. Even a motorcycle ride will leave me experiencing some sort of lag at the end of a long day. A meandering walk feeds my spirit.

On this particular morning we met out at Turnbull Wildlife Refuge and completed a 7 mile hike in the heat. We saw some elk and a great horned owl. It was a wonderful trail but one that I think I will keep reserved for Spring or Fall.
