Lucifer

Crocosmia “Lucifer” © 2020 Ira Gardner

This is a photograph I made of a plant we have been nurturing in a pot on our deck. Up until a couple of weeks ago it was only showing leaves. Last week I began noticing the emergence of the bud stems. I decided to photograph the first blooms because it is unlikely they will last long with all the high temperatures this week.

By placing black velvet behind it you really see the beautiful combination of colors that include red, yellow, periwinkle, green and cyan. This plant really is a HANDSOME DEVIL!

It is interesting to note that the name Lucifer attached to this plant is probably related to the folk tales of Breton which first described the devil as a handsome man with red hair.
