The Unfolding Universe

Posted on July 10, 2024July 18, 2024

This Aurelia aurita (moon jellyfish) floated passed our sailboat as the tide came in. I was struck by how it unfolded and projected itsefl in the water. I made a series of photographs and contemplated the origins of the universe. The photograph made me think of the cosmos and the big bang theory. I don’t think of it as an explosion but rather as an unfolding much like I feel the spirit unfolds itself within me as I age and grow old and embody a deeper level of consciousness.

As I look at these images I am also thinking about the way evolution works in terms of species adaption to the environment and the converse of the environment being impacted by the species. It is a yin-yang relationship. The internal and the external participate in a dance together. I think the Jellyfish allows us to see this interplay and I think it is beautiful.
