Animations

Today I had a student ask a question that caused me to pull out this old image from about 15 years ago so I could give a quick demonstration on how to make a gif animation out of a digital composite image.

Gif files are an interesting artifact of the early internet in the time we had 1200 and 2400 baud modems and bbs forums like compuserve. GIF’s compressed an image down to 256 colors to reduce file size. They are still used to make cinemagraphs that portray motion within a still frame.
