Botanical Dreams

Posted on March 17, 2025May 14, 2025

Today I spent time in my studio experimenting with underwater flower photography. I was inspired by some research one of my students had shown me and I decided to make my first attempt after accumulating all of the materials necessary. I ordered a clear acrylic tank and purchased flowers and five gallons of distilled water. My wife loaned me some white acrylic paint that I used an eye dropper to insert into the water to create the fog effect. As I drove home from the store I had an inspiration to add something I had not seen in my research… alka seltzer.

The alka seltzer added air bubbles to the water and I think it made the image something special because it says something about the need for oxygen for all living things.
