Musical Influences

Lately I am finding myself influenced by music and documentaries about music. I made this image of Keegan in direct response to having watched a documentary about The Band. When I saw Keegan standing at a piano I instantly had to make this image. It reminds me of a late 1960s or early 1970’s album cover.

When I was a child my parents would play records every Sunday morning. They would crank the volume up so the whole house could hear. It was part of a morning breakfast ritual that included waffles and orange juice. It was the only time I really saw my parents let go of their stress about life. Music helped everyone take a day off from worry. I remember listening to Cream and Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass. They are happy memories.

These days I find myself occasionally having music nights. It starts with a glass of wine and turning on some music. A song will come on and take my mind completely away from the present. On those nights my wife makes me sleep downstairs with headphones because she knows I will stay up all night jamming out just like my parents did so long ago.
