Elements of a visual story

When I make a photo essay I try to tell a visual story in a cinematic way by incorporating 4 basic categories of photographs and 3 composition formats. They are:

  • Establishing Shot
  • Action
  • Detail
  • Portrait

For each of these categories I try to compose wide, medium, tight, and extreme closeup images in both horizontal and vertical formats. The horizontal works well for slideshows and videos and the vertical works well for magazine and book publications as well as blog posts.

Photo essays can be used for journalism as well as for business stories that help convey an authentic brand.

I am available for story assignments worldwide. Please use the contact form at the bottom of this page to get ahold of me. Thanks!
