Winter Geese

Posted on February 10, 2025February 10, 2025

Sometimes moments I see happen without the camera. I fill disappointed that I don’t have a camera with me and that I missed the chance to capture a special image. This weekend I had one of those situations. I spent the weekend loading and unloading shop equipment from my father’s garage. I didn’t have time for photography. After the last load was unpacked at my friends shop in the country I drove my truck home and noticed a Chinese pheasant crouched down in the snow at the end of his long icy driveway.

I didn’t get the shot but I have the memory and it also reminded me to look for a recent image I made of geese flying at Turnbull. I am always amazed at how birds survive the winter. In fact I am always surprised how Robins seem to return in February just before a deep freeze. This morning it was zero degrees in my driveway. My truck groaned with a metallic screech when I first started it up. I didn’t have a choice. The noise quickly disappeared into the normal idle and I made it to work.
