Since I have been teaching various color grading techniques I decided to experiment with a simple split tone color grading technique that uses only two layers in photoshop that photographer Matt Shannon shared on youtube.
I think the technique is extremely effective at maximizing depth in a color image. It really helped with this Moose portrait because I had made this image from inside the studio looking out a window and the contrast was too low. When I attempted to go outside to get a cleaner image she ran off leaving me feeling quite guilty for disturbing her in the first place. Next time I will stay indoors and just use this technique to make a better image.
