Texture Experiments

Posted on February 19, 2025February 19, 2025

Today I gave a demonstration about how to use textures in photography to add depth and mood to a photograph. I played with this image of Taylor that I had made in December, 2024. She grabbed my fake bird that sits on the wall of my studio. I suppose I could use that old photographer’s trick of getting a smile by saying, “look at the birdy!”

Taylor reminded me of Stevie Nicks the singer and a Edgar Allen Poe character.

I revisited this image of an Actor named Ernie and used a texture layer to add some color grading to the image. Textures can be subtle and the effect is very pleasing to me.

Here is another one of Deja. Both images are fine as they are so really adding a texture layer isn’t about fixing an image. It’s a matter of personal preference and subtlety.
